Taiyuan Normal University (TNU) is a full-time higher normal university which is mainly engaged in undergraduate teacher-training education and also has non- teacher-training and postgraduate education. It was merged by Teachers College of Shanxi University, Taiyuan Teachers College and The Shanxi Institute of Education in 2000.

TNU covers a land of 1,050,000 square meters with about 870,000 square meters of construction area. The library now has a stock of over 1,265,000 national and international printed books and 8,750,000 e-books, 171 databases of electronic resources. The university has more than 24,000 undergraduate students, 278 postgraduates and 3,000 adult students from 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions nationwide.

TNU comprises 20 colleges and faculties and 2 teaching departments, offering 60 different undergraduate majors and covering 9 disciplines of Economics, Law, Education, Literature, History, Science, Engineering, Management and Art, while the master degree program includes 3 first-grade discipline master programs in Geography, Chinese Language and Literature, Mathematics, and 3 professional master¡¯s programs in Engineer (Computer Technology), Art and Education. TNU has about 1443 faculty members and working staff with 848 full-time teachers among them, including 110 professors, 296 associate professors and 146 doctors.

TNU at present has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 10 universities at home and abroad, and has signed cooperative agreements with the State University of New York at Albany, Northern Michigan University, Fisk University in America, Aston University in UK, Brandon University in Canada, Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg in Germany, the University of Adelaide in Australia. The university has also sent students for exchange and study for several consecutive years at the following universities: State University of New York at Albany and State University of New York at Purchase in America, Accademia di belle arti DI FOGGIA, University of Florence, Florence National Academy of Fine Arts in Italy, Selkirk College in Canada. Studying Duration and Academic Schedule

ÓïÑÔÉú·ÖΪÈý¸öÔ¡¢°ëÄê¡¢Ò»Äê¼°Á½Äꣻ±¾¿ÆÉú¼°Ë«Ñ§Î»Ñ§ÖÆΪ4Äꣻ˶ʿÑо¿ÉúѧÖÆΪ3Äê¡£¹ú¼ÊѧÉú¿ÉÒÔ¸ù¾ÝѧҵÇé¿öÉêÇëÊʵ±ÌáÇ°»òÑÓÆÚ±ÏÒµ¡£

The normal studying duration for Chinese Language Program is 3 months, 6 months, one year and two yeas; 4 years for bachelor degree or double-degree, and 3 years for master degree. International students may, in particular cases, apply for earlier or delayed graduation.

TNU divides every academic year into spring and autumn semesters, with the latter marking the commencement of the academic year. The autumn semester starts in late August or early September and ends in mid- or late January of the following year, while the spring semester begins in late February or early March and ends in mid-July. There will be a winter and summer vacation every year. The summer vacation usually lasts for 6 weeks, while the winter vacation lasts for 4 weeks and normally coincides with the Chinese New Year. Currently, Taiyuan Normal University offers two kinds of scholarship to the international students: Shanxi Government Scholarship (SGS) and Taiyuan Normal University Scholarship (TNUS). The Scholarship is mostly open to both the degree program students (undergraduate and graduate) and the non-degree program students (the visiting students and Chinese language students). The scholarships cover full or parts of the tuition, living allowance, medical insurance, basic textbooks, etc. The outstanding international students studying for undergraduate and graduate degree at TNU are given priority for scholarship. Normally the students can apply for the scholarship every year so long as they can finish their study as required by TNU.

According to the requirement of Chinese Ministry of Education, Students should purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan for Foreign Students provided by the insurance companies within Chinese mainland before registration. A waiver of medical insurance can be considered for the Short-term international students (less than 3 months) if they can provide certificate of medical insurance coverage of the similar kind. Students who do not have valid medical insurance are not allowed to register.

TNU provides apartments (60-80 square meters with two rooms and one lounge in each apartment for four students to live in) equipped with Internet access, furniture, kitchen and bathroom as the dormitory for international students. The accommodation fee is RMB 30 Yuan per bed per day. Three meals at the students¡¯ Dining Hall are around 600 Yuan per month per person. International students could prepare food for their own in the apartment.

Students shall come to Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of Taiyuan Normal University for registration during the dates indicated on the Admission Notice with the aforementioned documents.

A study period of 6 months and above requires an ordinary passport and an X1 visa. Accepted applicants need to exchange their X1 visas to a Residence Permit at the local Exit and Entry Administration of Public Security Bureau, within 30 days of arrival in China.
